From sailing innovation to power.
The Dynamic Stability System began on sailing yachts. Infiniti applies the same principle to power.
DSS in brief.
DSS is a transverse foil that extends from the hull. Its lift increases with speed; that is the ‘dynamic’ in its name. On a sailing yacht, the lift works against heel, doing the job of extra ballast or crew on the rail without adding weight. The first patents were filed in 2006.
From sail to power.
The idea carries over; the job changes. On a powercat, the foils support the hulls at speed, so less of each hull is in the water and pitching is damped. A powercat also spends time at low speed, in shallow water and alongside, so its foils retract fully when they are not working.
Sailing
Power
The technology in motion.
DSS was developed through years of real-world sailing experience. On the water, the principle becomes tangible: lift, stability and control working together.
Lift
The foil generates lift as speed increases.
Efficiency
Less of each hull remains in the water at speed.
Stability
The foil contributes to reducing unwanted motion.
Retractable
The foil retracts when it is not working, including at low speed, alongside and in shallow water.

One integrated whole.
Structure, hydrodynamics and form are developed together, not added in sequence. Ideas are tested before they are built, engineered with specialist partners and proven at sea.
Technology becomes a platform.
The Infiniti Powercat takes the principles developed through years of foil-assisted sailing and applies them to a new generation of power vessels.
